Teeth extraction/removal caused change in facial structure?

I had braces when I was in high school and I had 4 teeth removed because my ortho said my mouth was too crowded. When I got my braces off three years later, everything was straight, but my upper teeth moved too inward, my upper lip appeared to cover up too much of my lower lip, and my lips were just much thinner. Now I'm reading about how teeth extraction is not preferred because the teeth support the lips. Anyone have more info about how teeth affect the facial structure? Similar experiences? Has anyone ever tried lip enhancement using Invisalign or braces?
