What are the consequences of a cyst in gall-bladder?

A close friend of mine is having a cyst in her gall-bladder.She is worried that if she gets it operated she will have to remove her gall-bladder and this will spoil her power to digest. And I've heard that it can lead to cancer or it is one of the pre-cancer symptoms. Please help.
