Virtual villagers the lost children... I don't know how to make my scientist make a potion... help!!!!?

every time i drag my scientist to a flower, he does'nt pick it up unlike in V.V the secret city... it only says "studying the rare plant..." something like that... i can't make the potions! help please!!!
